Occupy Sydney Supports Cleaning Workers!

Dear Cleaning Workers,

Occupy Sydney extends its support and solidarity to you in your ongoing struggle for minimum standards of pay, working conditions and dignity.  Your fight is our fight!

Cleaners work tirelessly to provide clean and sanitary living and working environments for the rest of us.  Yet, for all their hard work cleaners receive poor pay, insecure employment and face bullying and illegal tactics by their employers who profit massively.  The company Spotless recently announced profits of $42.8 million, including $14.1 million in income from cleaning alone.   This outrage is indicative of the broader struggle against the 1% who continue to accumulate immense profits while the 99% are made to pay for the ravages of the economic crisis.

Occupy Sydney is the local manifestation of a global wave of resistance to inequality and injustice.  The Occupy movement is a movement for the interests of the majority of humanity (the ‘99%’) and is dedicated to supporting the struggles of the 99% against the 1%.  As a result, Occupy Sydney stands in complete solidarity with cleaning workers in their ongoing struggle.  A contingent from Occupy Sydney will be attending the protest in support of cleaning workers taking place at 1.30pm on Thursday December 8th.  We intend to continue to show our support for cleaners until their demands are won.

One Struggle, One Fight – the 99% Unite!

In solidarity,
Occupy Sydney
